The Project

Dry Riser Experts were appointed to carry out annual wet riser testing and servicing at two large residential buildings in Manchester.

With hundreds of residents relying on the buildings' fire safety systems, it was essential that the wet risers were fully operational, compliant, and capable of providing firefighters with an immediate and reliable water supply in the event of an emergency. Our engineers carried out a comprehensive inspection and testing programme to verify the performance of every key component within the systems.

Wet Riser System

The Challenge

Wet riser systems are a critical part of fire safety in high-rise residential buildings. Because they remain permanently charged with water, regular testing and maintenance are essential to ensure pumps, tanks, valves, and pipework continue to perform as intended.

For these two buildings, the client required a complete service to confirm the systems were operating correctly and meeting the required standards.

Our Service

As part of the works, our engineers carried out:

  • Full wet riser system inspections

  • 750 litres per minute (LPM) flow testing

  • Wet riser pump testing and operational checks

  • Inspection and testing of landing valves

  • Water storage tank inspections

  • Tank water level verification

  • Float valve and control checks

  • Pressure monitoring throughout testing

  • General condition assessments of all accessible components

  • Compliance reporting and certification

Every aspect of the system was carefully checked to ensure it would perform reliably during an emergency.

The Testing Process

One of the key elements of the service was conducting the required 750 LPM flow test. This test confirms that the system can provide the necessary volume of water for firefighting operations throughout the building. During testing, we monitored system pressures and pump performance to ensure water was being delivered effectively and consistently.

Our engineers also inspected the water storage tanks, confirming that water levels were maintained correctly and that associated controls were functioning as intended. Wet riser pumps and valves were tested to verify their operation and overall system reliability.

The Result

Following the completion of testing and inspections, both wet riser systems were confirmed to be operating correctly and meeting the required performance standards.

The project delivered:

  • Successful 750 LPM flow test results

  • Fully operational wet riser pumps

  • Verified tank water levels and controls

  • Functional valves throughout the systems

  • Increased confidence in emergency preparedness

  • Compliance documentation and certification for the client

Most importantly, residents and building management gained peace of mind knowing their wet riser systems were ready to support the fire service should they ever be required.

Protecting Residential Buildings

Regular wet riser servicing is essential for maintaining fire safety in high-rise residential properties. By identifying issues early and verifying system performance through routine testing, building owners and management companies can ensure compliance while helping to protect residents.

At Dry Riser Experts, we work with residential developments across the UK, providing professional wet riser testing, servicing, repairs, and certification to keep buildings safe and compliant.
