Dry Riser

What is a Dry Riser system?

A Dry Riser is a system that will allow firefighters to pump water, via an external connection, through the building's pipework to reach the landing valves. A dry riser has a landing valve on each floor. These can be opened, with the help of a wheel, to allow the arrival of water and fight the fire on the floor concerned.

According to the BS9990:2015 code of practice dry riser systems must be visually inspected every 6 months to ensure there has been no theft or vandalism on the system. An annual wet pressure test must be carried out every 12 months to ensure the dry riser doesn't have leaks or damaged components.
